LOL this is a bad map. East Timor's bishop won a Peace Prize for his work yet the map uses an old data set so East Timor doesn't show up and the award is not mapped. I hate when people rely on old data sets!
Thanks much for the update, Chartsbin. I'm not trying to bust your chops but you've missed Palestine (Yasser Arafat, 1994.)
Just a note, I've scaled the image down a bit to better fit the blogs format and also linked the image to it's source where, as mentioned above, you can zoom in and see both East Timor and Israel.
Bigger problem, you are representing raw data in a choropleth map. This is absolutely a bigger problem than any of the other objections so far.
Choropleth maps are only appropriate for ratio data, where the data is normalized for comparison with other areas. The most appropriate denominator in the ratio in this example would be population, since everyone is hypothetically eligible for the prize. Problem is that is meaningless.
Next big problem, you can't interpret your ramp. What value is the 60% green supposed to represent? Ten? You should have just put numbers in the national boundaries.
For the variety of integer data you have here, use proportionate symbol or hash marks, put the number in the country, present it as a table, make it a cartogram...almost anything other than choropleth.
@Alger If you click above map image it will take to original website (where you get flash animated interactive version of the image). If you move the cursor above the map you get number of people got.

It does it poorly. Anything United Nations is counted as a win for the United States.
