The huge error near the beginning, where the Ashoka Buddhist period in India is completely missed out, doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the rest

This one seems incomplete. Doesn’t do it for me.

Personally, I would like to know the basis of the pockmarked expansion of Christianity across Europe before it became the religion of the Roman Empire.

“...pockmarked expansion of Christianity…” It started out as an urban phenomenon. It reached the countryside late. “Pagan” comes from “pagani”, meaning peasant. Rodney Stark has a couple of books that touch on this.

I agree that the maps lack nuance. I would like to have seen Atheism as a phenomenon depicted, either the totalitarian or the postmodern liberal version. It would dominate the top of the page.

Any recommendations on books about Hindu/Buddhist relations? I’m kinda curious how the replacement of one with the other took place—was it conquest, conversion or some other process?

They lump Korea into Buddhism, which today it is about half Christian. This does not look very accurate at all; It is not enough.
