In it, he describes Saudi al-Qaeda members "fighting" in Afghanistan with the mujahideen, trying to expell the Soviets. When Soviets helicopter gunships or airplanes flew overhead, the Afghans would hunker down to wait until the aircraft were gone. The Saudis would pour out into the open and stand in plain view, in the hope of becoming martyrs. The Afghans thought they were nuts. Did you read Lawrence Wright’s book, The Looming Tower?
