The Southern Poverty Law Center says that hate groups in the US have surged to 888 in 2007, up from 602 in 2000.
See who and where they are. All hate groups profiled are race-based. Diversity Matters notes that much of the vitriol is directed at Latinos. I thought there would be more religion-based hate in America after 9/11 — besides the Church of Scientology accusing Anonymous of being a hate/terrorist group (see the Beard of Wisdom talk about it on YouTube). According to the ADL, religious hate crime motivations did see a bit of an uptick in 2002, but has settled back to about 18% of hate crimes, compared with around 50% for race-based crimes. I guess there are more racist crazies in America than religious ones. Then there are the religious-racist crazies. Looking at all this nuttery, I can’t help but think about how far America has come since the Sixties. I can’t imagine how bad it must have been.

Scott Hughes added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 12:48 amI guess a lot of people say it is because the focus on the immigration issue has enabled hate groups to recruit more people by vilifying Latinos. It’s sad.
Mark added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 1:19 amYou lose credibility by quoting or referring to an anti-white racist organization like the SPLC.
White males are the largest group of hate crime victims, with crimes committed by individuals and by government agencies.
jim added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 2:06 amAlthough I’m quite sympathetic to anti-racism groups, Southern Poverty Law Center doesn’t have much credibility in my book. They are the type of lefties that define opposition to, say, affirmative action as hate-based.
I personally favor large scale immigration, but I know SPLC tries to define every anti-illegal immigration group as racist. SPLC has been a very aggressive player in the game of labeling their opponents as racists and not debating the issues honestly.
Again, I say that as someone who wants a massive increase in H1-B visas, and is comfortable with large scale Mexican immigration. But that’s cause I think we’ll need manpower for the Sino-American War of 2035. :-)
SPLC isn’t a remotely objective group. I knew a few members, they tended to be self-hating hard-left whites.
Michael Hancock added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 2:57 amThe SPLC helped bring down the United Klans of America following their bankruptcy after the Michael Donald case. The continued existence of the KKK is enough for me to continue to support the SPLC. Self-hating whites are always better than other-hating whites in my book.
Being hard left doesn’t make a person wrong, it just makes them annoying.
Arcane added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 2:58 amYes, I agree with Jim and Mark. The SPLC is not a reliable, objective organization in any way. They ignore select minority groups and tons of statistical analyses when they don’t agree with their preconceived, anti-white notions. Muslim hate groups are ignored. Mexican hate groups are ignored. Almost all minority on majority hate crimes are ignored. Mainstream conservatives are regularly attacked by them for simply opposing affirmative action or for having supported welfare reform efforts back in the mid-90s. Groups that support immigration-reform are labeled under “General Hate.” They even label every chapter of the Constitution Party as a “hate group,” despite it simply being nothing more than a paleoconservative group. Heck, they won’t even acknowledge that the most anti-Semitic groups in the United States are not white; based on statistics from the ADL, on a per capita basis, blacks are eight times more likely than white to be anti-Semitic. In fact, while less than 4% of white people are anti-Semitic, over 32% of black people are. But this is completely ignored by them.
Arcane added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 3:38 amAnother thing: simply counting groups is a mistake, since the groups are personality driven and regularly split up as rivals form new groups. For example, there’s the National Alliance, and then there’s at least five groupings formed by those who broke with the NA: National Vanguard, Nationalist Party USA, Nationalist Coalition, White People’s Party, and White Revolution.

You’re 100% right. I would take them much more seriously if they treated everyone “equal.” The biggest Hispanic advocacy group in America is actually called “The Race” (La Raza) and the SPLC or the ADL don’t criticize them at all. I think it was the SPLC who labeled Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) a “hate-group” for opposing open borders and affirmative action.
Meanwhile, on the University of Michigan campus, left-wing students literally attacked YAF members with bats and sticks, and during another incident, disrupted talks given by Jim Gilchrist and Tom Tancredo by storming the stage. In my experiences, white left-wing students, and various minority student organizations are much more prone to violence and vandalization compared to any right-wing student groups.
The biggest problem I have with left-wingers is they actually believe that they’re justified in attacking people, spitting on them, or throwing things at them because they perceive their opponents as being morally inferior. These people, who believe themselves to be very “tolerant” are actually the most intolerant of all. I’ve always thought about doing research on radical leftists with the purpose of locating the origins of these peoples pathologies.
I need to make clear that I’m not a right-winger either. I find most of the “culture war” issues that the right fixates on to be a waste of time. The difference is the left is allowed or even encouraged to deny the right to speech to people they don’t agree with while if it was the other way around, the national guard would be called in.
This ties in with the SPLC and ADL because they set the standard in America for who is to be considered a “hate-group” or not. The ADL refused to call the Armenian genocide a “genocide” because they thought it would hurt Israels relationship with Turkey. I found this to be the epitome of hypocrisy, and it became obvious to me that the ADL is not so much a “watchdog organization” as its an intimidation organization used to ruin the careers of those who show dissent with the state religion of Political Correctness. Both the ADL and the SPLC like to scare elderly Jewish people out of millions of dollars by always warning of a soon to be 4th Reich.
The SPLC and ADL are also involved in attempts at creating “hate-crimes” bills that overwhelmingly target white men. While the majority of interracial crime is committed against white people, the majority of “hate-crimes” charges are against white men. In a criminal justice system that we’re constantly told is “bias” or “discriminatory” against non-whites, something doesn’t seem to add up here. As the country continues to change demographically, be sure to look out for European style “hate-speech” laws. In Europe, one can go to jail for just pointing out that crime rates have risen in areas populated by new immigrant groups. The ADL and SPLC also lead the campaign for Internet censorship as well. In many ways, groups like the SPLC are more a threat to the freedoms we enjoy in America than any Nazis or Klansman could ever wish to be.
Mark added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 5:36 pmObama’s church is obviously a large hate group (largest black church in Chicago) but the SPLC and the media ignores it (or tries to) because they hate the right people.
Dan tdaxp added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 5:46 pmFrom the Washington Post link:
“Black separatists see whites as inherently racist and often seek a separate nation for African Americans. Some assert that blacks are the real ‘chosen people.’”
By the last requirement, would Barack Obama’s Trinity UCC Church be a hate group?
Michael added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 7:27 pmDid anyone else notice? South Dakota was listed as having none of the listed types of hate groups. Fess up, Dan! Are you folks from SD just really nice people, or is there a goof in the counting process?

GI Korea added these pithy words on 17 Mar 08 at 9:41 pmSo when are the anti-military groups going to be added to the list of hate groups? I have never experienced hate before like I have had from these groups and now they are attacking and bombing military recruiter offices.
