It may be an unpopular decision, but at least it would be taken care of in-house. It would also give them fewer things to worry about with Turkey, and they could integrate parts of the PKK into the Peshmerga. Its not like we'd have to ask for any kind of permission, the right equipment (helicopter gunships) are more or less in range, and the US still needs a friendly Turkey.
