This is a proper sort of monitor and keyboard. Most of it could be duplicated by an individual with some skill at the manual arts, though the chime-cam monitor controls are one-offish. Naturally, for the higher sort of application, the decalcomania-on-wood base would have to be replaced by true marble.

One must wonder about the software driving the telegraph sounder: American Morse or Continental? The former offer better speed at the expense of multiple symbol elements while the latter is easier to learn and more widely used. A skilled clacker might well incorporate automatic translation from formal English to the Philips Code system of abbreviation for more rapid communication, no matter which version of Morse was used.

It would be delightful if this return to decently-made technological devices were to continue to grow. Otherwise, I fear we shall be buried in an avalance of cheap and alternately dull and gaudy plastic.

I must say, this is a startling and cheering development. These objects are extraordinarily beautiful. The scanner that looks like a book is particularly nice. I hope this tasteful trend catches on more widely.
