Following Curzon’s interesting post on the historicity of the heart symbol my blog of recent discovery — Kent’s Imperative — calls for new insights and interpretations on historical intelligence studies. We at Coming Anarchy highly endorse looking to the past, and the field of intelligence is certainly a neglected field. KI refers us to a book on int activities in ancient Rome, Intelligence Activities in Ancient Rome: Trust in the Gods But Verify by Col. Rose Mary Sheldon which looks great. Anyone else have some good references?

For American intelligence, I highly recommend Christopher Andrew’s book For the President’s Eyes Only .

Other good books are “Between Silk and Cyanide”, “Target Tokyo” about Richard Sorge’s spy ring, “A Secret Life” by Benjamin Weiser about a Soviet spy for the US, “A Spy for All Seasons” by Duane Clarridge (take it with a grain of salt, but it’s still a good book and very entertaining), “The Wizard’s War”... many many good books on intelligence.

The scientists’ credo is often humorously described as “In God we trust – all others bring data”
