Good. I’m glad. And I am sure HRH is excited for the chance to bring back some military glory to the tarnished Royals.

Eddie added these pithy words on 30 Apr 07 at 5:38 pmI wonder what the consequences of his death would be, especially if tied to Iranian elements that support attacks in Southern Iraq.
a517dogg added these pithy words on 30 Apr 07 at 5:49 pmOr if he’s killed by Sunni insurgents with ties to Saudi Arabia. That could make for some complicated diplomacy. Morbid thoughts.
Eddie added these pithy words on 30 Apr 07 at 6:31 pmIndeed the Saudi element is worrying too. Regardless, bravo to the prince for showing his courage and wanting to be alongside his mates in the field. Not only does the royal family need some prestige again, the British military does as well.
Jason W added these pithy words on 30 Apr 07 at 6:45 pmI salute him. He makes a good role model… unlike his dad.
von Kaufman-Turkestansky added these pithy words on 30 Apr 07 at 10:47 pmWhy Iraq and not Afghanistan?
lirelou added these pithy words on 30 Apr 07 at 11:52 pmLet’s hope he has better luck than “Prince Imperial”, Eugene Louis Jean Joseph Napoleon, had while wearing the British uniform in the Second Zulu War. The Prince, while legally in a “private capacity” but authorized the uniform and privileges of an officer in the Horse Artillery, was killed while attached to a South African unit.
ElamBend added these pithy words on 01 May 07 at 12:08 pmHe’ll fight for his fellow troopers, just like any soldier.
I’m glad they’ll let him go.
von Kaufman-Turkestansky added these pithy words on 01 May 07 at 12:42 pmThe sentiments expressed here recall Edward III speaking of his son the Black Prince at Crecy: “Also say to them, that they suffre hym this day to wynne his spurres, for if god be pleased, I woll this iourney be his, and the honoure therof”. The connection to Edward III goes deeper, since it was that king who founded the Order of the Garter; when the Countess of Salisbury’s garter slipped, it was Edward III who supposedly said “_Honi soit qui mal y pense_ (Shame on him who thinks ill of it!)” – and “_Honi soit qui mal y pense_” is – wait for it – the motto of the Blues and Royals. Incidentally it is also the motto of the Governor General’s Horse Guards in Canada. The connections are making my head spin.
Younghusband added these pithy words on 01 May 07 at 5:07 pmDamn vKT! Where do you come up with this stuff! Very cool.
von Kaufman-Turkestansky added these pithy words on 02 May 07 at 9:13 pmI just couldn’t help but remember the old Winston Churchill History of the English-Speaking Peoples; and when I recalled Edward III and the Black Prince, I recalled the Order of the Garter and its motto (I wasn’t a GGHG, but I was a trooper in QYRANG for a short time (long ago), and we trained together (as reservists) with GGHGs with regular force Royal Canadian Dragoons. It was there I heard some of my first “franglais”: a warrant officer who kept saying things like “Qu’est-ce que F**K!”
lirelou added these pithy words on 03 May 07 at 12:14 amCommanded a tank company in the (now defunct) 81st Armor, which in the early 70s included a British exchange officer as the Bn XO. Michael Canning of the 17th/21st Lancers was the first, followed by Michael Mates of the Queens Dragoon Guards. One of them had instituted the “order of the garter” for the officers wives. As each new wife came into the battalion, she was presented with a garter at a small ceremony which related the history. After that, any wife attending a battalion function without the garter thereby obligated her spouse to buy a round of drinks.
Sonagi added these pithy words on 03 May 07 at 5:10 pmGood on Harry and his family for being willing to accept a dangerous posting. I respect his sense of duty and wish him well. How many of our government leaders have children serving in Iraq or Afghanistan? Isn’t it something like two members of Congress?
von Kaufman-Turkestansky added these pithy words on 04 May 07 at 12:43 pmVery good point. You can’t call him a chickenhawk.
lirelou added these pithy words on 17 May 07 at 5:02 amWise decision on the Army’s part, and I’m sure his Battalion Commander, Company Commander, and the SAS Regt. will be forever grateful. I don’t doubt his pluck, but you can imagine what the security requirements were going to be like.
jon added these pithy words on 17 May 07 at 3:53 pmToo bad for Harry he doesn’t get to go. Probably the one place he wouldn’t have to deal with the paparazzi.
