From CNN:
Saudi’s on U.S. in Iraq: ‘illegitimate foreign occupation’
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP)—King Abdullah’s harsh—and unexpected—attack on the U.S. military presence in Iraq could be a Saudi attempt to signal to Washington its anger over the situation in Iraq and build credibility among fellow Arabs.
As warned just yesterday, the Saudi description of the invasion of Iraq as an “illegitimate foreign occupation”Â? is not the big story here. Rather, what’s important is that this is a rare moment of Arab introspection about the problems facing the region, where the typical response is to blame Israel, America, and plenty of others in this region where conspiracy theories rule the political culture.
CNN is right in that it was a “harsh and unexpected attack,” and I used similar words in my last post. But the target was the Arab world, not the US. That the mainstream media missed this important point for the easy headline shouldn’t surprise any of us.

von Kaufman-Turkestansky added these pithy words on 30 Mar 07 at 1:59 pmAll too true. I think the appopriate classification of mainstream news services is not “liberal” or “conservative” media, but rather “idiot, imbecile or moron” media. This allows for some distinction. I haven’t yet decided whether CNN gets “idiot” or “imbecile”. “Moron” seems too generous.
jon added these pithy words on 30 Mar 07 at 3:50 pmIs it really a suprise that major US media doesn’t have a clue about any nation that wasn’t once directly ruled by one of Victoria’s grandchildren? I don’t know how it is with the major European news sources, but anyone who actually knows anything about Asia, the mid-East or Africa is relegated to the background in the US. Only to be dug up in event of war.
I’m sure most of the US anchors, especially those that only stay in the studio used to think that King Hussein of Jordan and Saddam were cousins or something.
