Croc Hunter Dead

When I read headlines like this, I’ve just got to wonder if we’ll ever see a similar headline about our Bob as he gallivants to some chaotic corner of the globe.

Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and environmentalist known as the “Crocodile Hunter,”Â? was killed Monday by a stingray during a diving expedition, Australian media said. He was 44.

Irwin was filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrier Reef in northeastern Queensland state when the accident occurred, Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on its Web site.

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. said Irwin was diving near Low Isles Reef near the resort town of Port Douglas, about 1,260 miles north of the state capital of Brisbane.

I can just see it now:

"Reality Hunter" Robert Kaplan dies...

It's fun to see a guy jump out of a cage and start spanking a great white shark. It's not quite as thrilling to see a guy ride through the back roads of the run-down developing nations of the world. So I'm guessing that the Kap's obituary will not be quite as potent.

That's more Niall Ferguson's schtick.

Actually I think our Bob will be pretty safe through the finish of his 'Grunts' cycle. However, when he ventures out for new material afterward and is no longer embeded with US Forces we may have to worry.

Now that's got me thinking...what will he do next? Did the Vegas trip flip the Hunter Thompson trigger? Will we get 'Fear and Loathing on the Trans-Siberian Railroad?'
