After recently returning it seems the Japanese military may be off again, this time to the Philippines :

Japan is prepared to send peacekeeping troops to the Philippines after it agreed Sunday to join an international team overseeing a cease-fire between the Philippine government and a secessionist Muslim group in southern Philippines.

Hope it doesn’t turn out like last time

I'm a little stunned at this. In a region where everyone seems to fear that Japanese still, this is a bit surprising.

The last link was mean.
It`s not the "region". It`s just China and Corea who hate Japan. The Phillipines has had good relations for a good time, and in opinion polls Japan is quite liked around SE Asia.

I concede, and admit that I knew as much when I wrote the comment. What it shows is how much northeast Asia is tied up in power maneuvers using the past as proxy, while southeast Asia has gotten over things.
