The Japan-Iran angle: Round 2

Koizumi pwning Khamenei

After the Japanese foreign minister Taro Aso was rebuffed by Iran for requesting a halt on uranium enrichment activities, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki asked Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi for Japanese participation in Iran’s nuclear power plants. Exactly one year ago Saru and I discussed getting Japan to engage Iran on behalf of the West. Could this be Japan’s big chance to pull off some new political jujutsu, rather than pounding away with the same old economics bludgeoning of the past?

The fight continues at Mutant Frog.

Japan has to wait for the UN Security Council's decision on Iran. Japan is also restricted by American policies, but Japan already has an oil deal with Iran worth $2 billion.
