Oh yes…there will be blood.

An excerpt from Coming Anarchy (the article/book):

Physical aggression is a part of being human. Only when people attain a certain economic, educational, and cultural standard is this trait tranquilized. In light of the fact that 95 percent of the earth’s population growth (4.5 billion in the next 50 years) will be in the poorest areas of the globe, the question is not whether there will be war (there will be a lot of it) but what kind of war. And who will fight whom?

Blood is already spilling in Sudan, Iraq, and sometimes in Afghanistan. Iran may be next. Bloody protests are frequent in China. The fall of the North Korean regime may be bloody. On top of it all, the AIDS epidemic claims more lives than wars. Much of the world is facing doom and gloom.

Mi-Hwa: have you been reading Kaplan's stuff from the 1980s and 1990s? You'd like it.

Curzon: I'm currently reading The Ends of the Earth. It has interesting details about the developing countries. I noticed that Kaplan often cited from Lord Curzon's writings about Persia.
