A pleasant surprise to see Merkel taking a harder line. Admittedly, I wasn't expecting much with her weakened position. It's nice to see a major power align more with the US instead of lining up on the side of the blamers who always seem to be able to put the US at the center of their criticism. The US has made mistakes in the past and will continue to make mistakes, but Merkel understands that it's much better to ally oneself with a real power (a winner, as I've said elsewhere), rather than lesser powers such as France or Russia. The US will need plenty of support in dealing with Iran and with Germany finding some balls, maybe others will back some kind of action, instead of the usual European reaction of 'all talk and no action'.
