Depressing…

Forgive me, but as much as I can appreciate comics from my childhood and popular music, it is somewhat depressing that a google search of “Hobbes” requires you to scroll through 30+ hits before arriving at anything related to the famous 17th century philosopher.

(Of course, how many people look for real historical information on Curzon, Younghusband, or Chirol and arrive at this page! But at least we make an effort.)

You should have just typed the full name, Thomas Hobbes. I tried that in Google, and he came up in the first hit.

Well, Calvin and Hobbes were named after the emminent thinkers, so at least there's some kind of a tenuous connection...

Thomas also comes up first if you search "Hobbes not Calvin" in advanced search... so not THAT depressing...

What are you talking about?

I get five hits on the first page for a search of Hobbes. Even Thomas Hobbes is more effective. The most effective singular search is "Thomas Hobbes." And if that is a problem you can always add a boolean modifer of -calvin -comic.
