It has been a busy week in the Younghusband household. Here is a roundup of some of the interesting things that I came across/did this week while embroiled in writing term papers:
Movie: Syriana
Saw it Friday night. Actually not too bad… only 2 or 3 moralistic jibes, but otherwise is simply an updated re-telling of 1953 Iran with a twist and in a different country. Not as engaging as Traffic, but entertaining for folks that know where Tenghiz is.
Book: Blueprint for Action
Finally sat down and read it this week. Have to say, I enjoyed PNM better. I did find the “Heroes Yet Discovered” and “Headlines of the Future” interesting though.
Website: del.icio.us
Oh your god this is a godsend! I have no idea why I waited so long to use this service. Del.icio.us will make tracking my online research so much easier. Brilliant! Sign up now! 2005 has been a good year for Web 2.0.
Software: Google Earth (Mac OS X)
Finally Google released it’s desktop mapping client for Mac! Joy! Too bad it’s interface design is ass.
Video Clip: Run, Escape, Jump
This clip is from the Luc Besson film Banlieue 13 (yes, those banlieue!) It features the founder of one of my favourite solo sports: Parkour

davesgonechina added these pithy words on 12 Dec 05 at 6:17 amI moved all, and I mean all, my bookmarks to del.icio.us. Broke up the task over a couple of weeks, but it was so worth it. I used the del.icio.us javascript to create a last 100 links page and a cloud page. Plus, Spurl.net can import your del.icio.us bookmarks, and caches the pages, so every so often I have it import my del.icio.us so that I’ll always have back ups should a page cease to exist.
Apparently, though, very few people have del.icio.us categories like “turkmenistan”, so there aren’t too many social links yet.
