There’s been a spate of Westerner kidnappings in Iraq over the past few days, most recently of a German woman and her driver:
A German woman has been kidnapped in Iraq, according to reports from German state television. The Germany foreign minister has confirmed that a woman and her driver disappeared last Friday. The hostage takers have demanded that Berlin cease all dialogue with the government in Iraq.
I hope that Berlin does all it can to release the hostage, but I also hope this wakes people up in the US and Europe as to what we’re dealing with in Iraq if these insurgents get their regime in Iraq. Whether it be Saddam Lite or Mesopotamia Khalifate, I can think of few things more undemocratic, authoritarian, and evil, just when Bin Laden and his ilk are losing their base of support. Much is at stake.

It is and will remain impossible to completely remove the incentive to undertake terrorist attacks, so long as ideological forces cause prospective terrorists to under-value their own lives and safety in order to cause harm to their perceived enemies. While there is no single policy that will effectively apply to every act of terrorism, victims can secure the greatest possible level of security by randomly selecting from among all available responses. This random behavior disrupts the terrorists’ ability to effectively calculate the value and impact of violent acts, which itself has a dampening effect on the undertaking of those violent acts as a whole.
snow added these pithy words on 30 Nov 05 at 12:18 pmI read that the peace group that sent the hostages over in the first place is blaming the US and Britain for the hostage taking (for having gone into Iraq in the first place). Are all these peace groups so logically-challenged? (or personal responsibility-challenged?)
