New Jersey needs the Kaplan Fan

Next Tuesday, New Jersey will elect a new governor. The state is recovering from the embarassing resignation of former Governor Jim McGreevey, who left office after announcing he was gay (the first openly gay governor) and widespread corruption in his administration. Next week’s race is between incumbent Democratic US Senator Jon Corzine and a former mayor and self-made millionaire Doug Forrester.

This kind of provincial politics wouldn’t normally end up in this blog, but look what the New York Times revealed in their profile of Forrester yesterday:

DOUGLAS ROBERT FORRESTER
BORN: Jan. 24, 1953.
HOME: West Windsor, N.J.

EDUCATION: Buchser High School, Santa Clara, Calif., 1972; Harvard University, 1975 (B.A. in philosophy and government); Princeton Theological Seminary, 1983 (master’s in theology and politics).

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Mayor of West Windsor, 1981-82; assistant state treasurer, 1982-83; state pension director, 1984-90; co-founder and president of BeneCard Services, 1990 to present.

FAMILY: Married Andrea Howard in 1975; three children: Alex, 24; Ryan, 21; Briana, 19.

HOBBIES: Reading, especially books by Robert D. Kaplan, a writer for The Atlantic Monthly who specializes in international affairs; playing squash; listening to the Moody Blues and U2; long-distance vacation drives with family.

Well well…

Honestly Curzon, I have to say you are much too infatuated with the man. I think he hardly warrants being ordained the second coming of Clausewitz as you seem to be doing.

I thought it was pretty cool we had an openly gay governor for a while. Shame about the corruption though.

Jing: One of our missions here is following Mr. Kaplan's work and news related to him. Kaplan is much more than the second Clausewitz; more like Clausewitz meets Machiavelli, Kipling, and Joseph Conrad... mmmm.....

MF: What is worse is that he used his alleged homosexuality to make a media storm to distract from the massive corruption in Trenton. For shame.

Dr. Wallace: Truly, NJ voters have much to ponder next Tuesday.

Ah yes, we all know how important a foreign policy outlook is for the Governor of New Jersey. After all, those Pennsylvanians are just across the river, ready to cross at any time and rain hell on their enemies.

Forrester is a moron, I would not assume that he actually understands anything that Kaplan says--or anything else for that matter (give you three guesses who I am voting for :)
