Is there anybody that they are not willing to kill? I don’t doubt that they have strategies and campaigns that they execute intending to accomplish certain goals. Yet they never lack for an excuse to kill someone, even their own people, some of whom they drug or chain to car bombs. At some point strategy and the motivations of ideology give way to pathological mass murdering.

For what? Disconnectedness. That’s what al Qaeda in Iraq and the Baathists are great at.

They want to seperate their society from the developed world’s, and targeting those guys who make modern relations work (such as diplomat) is part of a sensible, full-spectrum assault.

They ARE thugs. I say this at the risk of sounding uber-nationalist. But equating al-Qaeda terrorists to patriotic freedom fighters is horrible. In our revolution, the Minute Men were fighting AGAINST tyranny, not for it.
