Wow, Germans are mean:

Nicholas Gennett and Jeanie Moore say that they would have liked to take him along to Philadelphia to receive their award. Why? Because he is what they call a success story in their “Special Group of the Labor Force.” Johnson, an ailing man pushing 60, who works 15 hours a day so that he won’t lose his house, is their success story. Leonard Johnson hardly evokes the image of a starfish — he’s more like a beached whale that a retired social worker and two former teachers are trying to pull back into the sea.

Indeed. Spiegel loves to use little horrifying anecdotes (never facts) to show how evil American capitalism is and always portray Europe’s choices as American’s cold hearted capitalism or Europe’s warm and fuzzy socialism. There articles are almost always bereft of fact and have no perspective whatsoever. No wonder Germans are so anti-US.

That Spiegel article looks like it was written by the Comintern. It reminds me of when the Chinese talk about black rights in America.
