Voice of the Caliphate

First it was Lonely Planet: Jihad edition and now this. Forget satellite television or short streaming clips from CNN or BBC, Voice of the Caliphate is what’s happening on the internet. What is it you ask? Terror tv at it’s best, i.e. Al Qaeda’s new weekly news show. Seems its designed to rival “western propaganda” although visually, it attempts to mimic it. The Middle Eastern Research Institute (Memri) has some of the video along with a transcript.

Following are excerpts from Sout Al-Khilafa – a new Al-Qaeda weekly news broadcast on the Internet

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.

The Global Media Front presents to you: “Sout Al-Khilafa” (The Voice of the Caliphate).

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. The headlines of this news summary: Gaza has been liberated ““ a great victory, yet a weighty responsibility. In Iraq, Abu Mus’ab Al-Zarqawi declares a war of Sunni vengeance, and Hurricane Katrina is the beginning of the divine, just punishment.

“Sout Al-Khilafa”

Welcome to the program “The Nation’s Weekly News Summary.” First, the “Sout Al-Khilafa” team sends its best wishes to the Islamic nation for the defeat of the Zionist occupation in a portion of occupied Palestine. We also congratulate ourselves on the destruction caused in America, by one of Allah’s soldiers. The Muslim multitudes in Palestine were seen thronging to the liberated lands, waving the banner of victory. Meanwhile, the mouthpieces of the so-called Palestinian Authority spoke about disarming the mujahideen under the pretext of what they called “the weapons anarchy.” But the response of the mujahideen groups on the front lines was clear. They announced their refusal to disarm as long as the occupier remains in the land of the Muslims.

"IHS" (Iran Hackers Sabotage), a hacker group, have been busy lately. They were in the news for defacing Novell's OpenSUSE.org, wiki.novell.com and forge.novell.com by posting a message stating that it was Iran's right to develop nuclear power.

"Hurricane Katrina is the beginning of the divine, just punishment."

I wonder what they'll have to say about this recent earthquake in Pakistan.

Wouldn't it be sweet, sweet divine justice if the earth swallowed Osama Bin Ladin as he skulked in one of his caves.

Curzon,

I had my class read Voice of the Caliphate today, and asked for their thoughts, especially as it relates to IR. Several students brought up the Pakistan quake. The likely answer is that bin Laden is a religious Optimistic -- "God makes everything happen for the best" - so he'd recognize if he doesn't see how a Muslim-killing earthquake in Pakistan helps Muslims, that's his problems, not God's.
