Is Philalawyer dead?

Blogger Philalawyer had one of the best blogs out there. The posts were lengthy, but well worth the read. But he was never all that frequent. When he first started, he was blogging a few times a week, but soon tappered down to once a week, and then even less. His last post was in May.

Reading through the comments of this current post, I found this:

To all the people who enjoyed and responded to “Philalawyer”’s blog, we sincerely thank you. He was overjoyed to see how much people liked his writing. So much so, that he was considering leaving the legal profession and continuing this on a full-time basis. He had spoken with three publishing companies in early April, met with one and was considering a book deal.

I’m a civil litigation attorney out of Chicago that had gotten to know Philalawyer well through e-mail and occasionally on the phone.
Unfortunately, Lance is no longer with us. He was involved in a major collision with another car while driving home from work three weeks ago.

From what his wife had told me on the phone, he was spiraling down professionally and personally. He was drinking more and more after work and this is most likely what led to his unfortunate and much too early death.

Wow. I loved the guy, did posts on his writing twice, was in contact with him (at a yahoo email address that no longer works), and am sorry to hear this. R. I. P. Lance, your work was wonderful and you will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Unless this is just an Elvis stunt…
