Was Winston Drunk?

The joke—or ugly truth—is that Winston Churchill was drunk when, as a Minister of State near the end of World War I, he drafted the borders of the Middle East, resulting in Iraq’s crooked border with Jordan

Looks like an attempt to fit the border to the western edge of that plateau on the southern end of the Iraq/Jordan line

At a some formal party back in the day, a woman accused Churchill of being drunk. To which he replied: "Yes ma'am, that may be so. But in the morning I'll be sober, but you'll still be ugly."

True or not, you gotta love the man. :)
