Bonk on the Head is a coming of age story involving the usual amateurish sexual encounters and disturbing family life. The main character joins the local militia and ships out to the Royal Military College of Canada where he experiences the tortorous life of an Officer Cadet. The authour is a graduate of RMC and is currently an FSO based in Ottawa. It is unclear as to how much of the story is actual memoir and how much is simply fiction, but the descriptions have an uncanny ring of truth to them. Reading a book that describes so much about your current surroundings is lots of fun. The authour seems to be writing for the RMC crowd, and doesn’t even bother to explain things like kye or the Toucan. These things every RMC cadet knows well, but it doesn’t detract from the story.
