Getting Moral Clarity Right

Manfred Nowak, a UN human rights official has urged the British government not to go ahead with plans to deport foreign Islamist radicals. Fortunately, there are some sane heads in the British government and the minister has told the UN to piss off that their focus is skewed..

“The human rights of those people who were blown up on the Tube [subway] in London on July 7 are, to be quite frank, more important than the human rights of the people who committed those acts… It is a balance, of course, and I acknowledge that there are real issues that have to be addressed, but I wish the UN would look at human rights in the round, rather than simply focusing all the time on the terrorist.*
Home Secretary Charles Clarke

Thank you.

On a side note, I wonder when was the last time Nowak criticized the human rights policy of North Korea, Burma, Venezuela, Russia, China, etc.?

If it would clean up its act, the U.N. has the _potential_ of being helpful in relief efforts, the debacle of the tsunami relief effort not withstanding. But politically, the U.N. should be seen for what it is- a tool to undermine and defeat the U.S. and its few allies. The very idea that the U.S. or Britain during WWII would have permitted cheerleading for the Nazis is ludicrous.

Questions rarely asked,

What human rights were contravened that led to the contravention of human rights via the London Bombings?

The UN should stick to what it seems to do decently, namely providing aid to those in need. Otherwise it's opinions are nearly irrelevant. They have little real power, why bother to listen to them?

Wow. I think I'm going to add that to the sidebar of my site's main index. Great quote. Thanks Curzon.

[...] The British seem to be the only ones in Europe who get it. Europe has continued to prove that it is actually one of the biggest contributers to instability and conflict due to its inaction. I’m coming close to adding an “Appeasement” category to ComingAnarchy’s list. Leave a Reply [...]
