Leaving soon

Well, the departure date has been set: August 24th. Originally we were to fly to Kingston but Lady Younghusband decided she wanted to see the wonders of Saskatchewan and thus requested to take a land route. Everybody here in BC goes on and on about how there is absolutely nothing there, but she just had to see for herself. Being the gentleman that I am, I offered to accompany her on the 68 hour Greyhound ride to Kingston. This by far outdoes the 38 hour desert-crossing bus ride from hell I endured in China. At least this time we won’t get cholera.

68 to Kingston

Upon arrival we will be staying at a sweet bed & breakfast right on the waterfront in downtown Kingston. It’s a steal for $35 a night, but the catch is it is truly on the waterfront. A plus actually, as far as I’m concerned.

Many of you know that I originally planned on leaving BC on September 4th. So why are we doing this so early? Unfortunately, since I am not CF/DND affiliated I am not eligible for any on-campus housing. Also, no real estate agency in Kingston will rent us a place sight unseen, and I know no person there that could check out a place out for us. Thus, I must go early and try to track down a place by September 1st. Wish me luck!

(needless to say, my Internet access will be severely limited during that time, and until I get a connection in my new apartment, knock-on-wood)

Best of luck, Sir Francis. I will be departing Japan on the 24th, so it will be a travel day for all of us. Please take lots of pictures of your transyukon journey and show us them on the blog.

Also, is that $35 CANADIAN? A total steal!

So that's what Canada looks like.

Good luck and shoot me a line when you get there. May still try and drive up for a visit sometime.

Good luck on the trip.

Greyhound is a very comfortable way to ride. May the Gods of Delightfully Crazy Drivers be with you. :)

A truly trying trip indeed. 68 hours. Is Greyhound "mad ghetto" in Canada like in the states? Enjoy your journey and good luck with the search! I'll be heading back to Germany on the 18th and then off to Syria the 2nd so looks like we'll all be underway soon.

I hate looking for apartments sooooo much. I'm about to hop in the car to go up to Seattle to find something. Of course I'll be running around the city all day... Knowing how fed up I get with this sort of thing, I'll probably just take the first place I see.

Anyhow, best of luck to you on your journey!

Indeed best of luck. I'm not sure why Lord Curzon expects a detour through the Yukon, but I would be interested in your thoughts of the future of the NorthWest Territories and the Yukon... might they get a new name soon? Do the locals there use the curious Pitman shorthand-based language they use in Nunavut?

Sorry to hear about riding that bitch for 68 hours. May the drunks not breathe on you two and especially not violate you in your sleep.

[...] Your correspondants here at Coming Anarchy are a busy lot. In the next two weeks great changes will be taking place as Curzon returns to the US from Japan and Chirol, who recently returned to Germany from the US will be off to Syria. Tonight I am to start my 68 hour journey to Kingston, Ontario where I will start my new life as a War Studies graduate student. [...]
