If you want to scare the living shit out of everyone in a major city, demonstrating that bombs like this can be carried around undetected and set off anywhere is a damn good way to do it. And any crowded place--be it a subway car, a bus, an airplane, or a scramble crossing--is vulnerable. The only way to defend against this is to (a) crucify those responsible and (b) not fear it, even for a second.
