Parrish the thought

Carolyn Parrish is at it again. The former Liberal MP was booted from caucus last year for calling Americans bastards and President George Bush a moron all within earshot of the press core. Now she is making waves by attacking Canadian Forces General Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff, calling him “truly barbaric” and imploring Defense Minister Bill Graham to “muzzle the beast.” This is in reaction to Gen. Hillier’s remarks regarding the recent CF deployment in Afghanistan (remember the “Our job is to be able to kill people” quote?).

Anyways, this chick is a nutjob, and I would like to point out that Gen. Hillier’s comments were welcome by many different kinds of people including myself. Carolyn Parrish represents only a minority of ignorant Canadians, and in regards to these recent comments I hope she gets the slap down she did for her previous anti-American outbursts.

… In fact, she went as far as to say that “If this thing gets any deeper in (Afghanistan) and we get a couple of dead Canadians back, I’ll vote to bring the government down the first opportunity I got.” … Ms. Parrish’s comments unfortunately indicate that many Canadians, even senior politicians, fail to understand the complexity and intensity of the Afghan situation. … While Gen. Hillier may not speak for our Government, he speaks quite plainly for our military, and does not gloss over the unsavoury aspects of the job at hand. As a public, we need to be aware that the Government has committed the CF to a dangerous mission in a hostile part of Afghanistan, which does not resemble the old style Peacekeeping missions of the 1990’s. It is straight talk – not politically motivated “muzzling” that will ensure the Canadian mindset is ready for what may come in Afghanistan.
