London Had Nothing To Do With Iraq

Here is a list of the major terrorist attacks. Following the logic of the left, all of these should have something to do with Iraq, regardless of whether the war had even begun yet or whether the countries had something to do with it or not. Remember, Islamic fundamentalism is solely related to the Iraq war. Before that, according to Sean Pean “Iraq was a peaceful place where children played in rivers of honey under a sky of cotton candy and everyone lived happily ever after.”

Paul Davies sums it up well:

Nothing anyone can do about it, really, if we withdrew from Iraq, they’d just go back to the Infidel argument, only shout a bit louder to heighten the effect.

The State Dept. has more information here and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has two good graphics here (in German, Hat Tip Grendel). And in case anyone needs more evidence that many (though there are surely exceptions) terrorists want not just to attack the US, but the west in general and institute Islamic law, then this should be enlightening:

Its aim is to resume the Islamic way of life and to convey the Islamic da’wah to the world. This objective means bringing the Muslims back to living an Islamic way of life in Dar al-Islam and in an Islamic society such that all of life’s affairs in society are administered according to the Shari’ah rules, and the viewpoint in it is the halal and the haram under the shade of the Islamic State, which is the Khilafah State. That state is the one in which Muslims appoint a Khaleefah and give him the bay’ah to listen and obey on condition that he rules according to the Book of Allah (swt) and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saw) and on condition that he conveys Islam as a message to the world through da’wah and jihad.

Based on this, the Party defined its method of work into three stages:
The First Stage: The stage of culturing to produce people who believe in the idea and the method of the Party, so that they form the Party group.
The Second Stage: The stage of interaction with the Ummah, to let the Ummah embrace and carry Islam, so that the Ummah takes it up as its issue, and thus works to establish it in the affairs of life.
The Third Stage: The stage of establishing government, implementing Islam generally and comprehensively, and carrying it as a message to the world.

Kudos. Very well done.

Before Team America showed up, it was a happy place. They had... flowery meadows and rainbow skies and, and rivers made of chocolate where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles.

I think saying it had nothing to do with Iraq is just as ridiculous as saying that the invasion of Iraq is the sole cause. Just as the bombing in London is only part of a long-term campaign of terrorism by Islamic fundamentalists, the terrorists consider the Iraq war part of a long-term campaign against Islamic civilization.

Maybe these disgruntled kids in England would have lost their minds and become suicide bombers even if we hadn't invaded Iraq, but I do think that Iraq probably helped them justify the decision to themselves.

As has been said before, just because Iraq is related to the Anglo-American response to Islamist terrorism does not mean our response or our actions in Iraq are to _blame_ for the bombings in London or other terrorist attacks. They were out for our blood long before and will be until Dar al Harb is no more.

Don't forget the October 2002 attack on the tanker Limberg off Yemen, which killed one crew member and spilled almost 4 million gallons of crude oil (about a third of an Exxon Valdez). Environmental terrorism on top of slaughter......

These are VERY BAD GUYS

Curzon: Thanks, I was trying to find the original quote. Good man!

J. Kende: Indeed, while Iraq was not responsible for the bombings, it sure didn't hurt recruiting. That's the best way to say it.

Dr. ARW: Yes. As I noted this was only a partial list, but thanks for the suggestion!

I'm not so sure Iraq is helping recruiting in the long run though. The message is much clearer now than it was before. Those who join up as recruits to AQ and affiliates are signing up to kill Muslims in much larger numbers than to kill Western infidels. Besides, was there really a recruiting shortage before Iraq?

Does that mean Clinton now gets his share of the blame for 7/7?

[...] And lastly, as I’ve noted before, the bombings had little to do with Iraq. The history of Islamic terrorism against the West didn’t start in 2003 and these latest articles say the same thing. The fact is that those people who were already in danger of breaking with society, could have become common criminals as many other poor disgruntled immigrants do. Did one war suddenly change them into murderous Islamists? Similar to World War I, the spark that finally set off the war shouldn’t be confused with the real causes. What say you? [...]
