It’s Official

France rejects the EU Constitution, and opposition leaders are already calling on French President Jacques Chirac to resign in the wake of the vote. (please please please please…) Chirac just made a televised statement saying that the vote has made it more difficult for France to defend its interests in Europe.

For what more could we ask?

I especially like the voters interviewed on NPR who summed up their reasons to vote no:

1) Turks are scary
2) Capitalism is scary

Has Chirac FINALLY got his come-uppance? Oh, I hope so!! But probably not. Even the French (!) finaly smell the rat!! But he will not leave the sinking ship.......

You know the French government wouldn't allow a word like "slurpee." It would have to be a "champagne congelé" or something.

I know it's off-topic, but can you tell me why is this category on your site called "Christendom"? I mean, why do you file all Europe-related posts in there? ... not a criticism, but a sincere question.

Ya, Joe, there's another one of my demands. France is going to have to work on that. I mean, they can keep their clunky words for weekend and email, but slurpee must enter their language.
