I married a monster
May 6, 2005Texas: “He’s the monster in my life,”Â? said Staci Morris (34), ex-wife of Charles Graner, the central figure in the Abu Ghraib abuse of Iraqi prisoners.
Morris said Graner would proudly e-mail his two children photos showing “beat up prisoners and blood and talk about how cool it was — look what daddy gets to do,”Â? she said, adding that she did not show them the correspondence.
Asked how Graner might have thought to inhumanely torture prisoners, Morris said, “He’s obsessed with this kind of stuff. He is a sexual deviant and is into very strange things.”Â?
Recounting the horrors of her married life Morris said that Graner had set up covert video surveillance of her bedroom twice. One night, she awoke to find him holding a large knife to her throat and openly pondering whether to kill her. On other occasions Graner recounted to guests invented tales about their sexual exploits, Morris said.
She said that she didn’t know how to explain Graner’s actions to their children. “I have them in counseling again.”Â?
