The Aral Sea

Ever since Mutant Frog and I traveled to Kazakhstan, we’ve been scheming to return and visit the Aral Sea. All I have to say is, we better hurry up:

Actually I hear that the North Aral has more or less stabilized, and is actually starting to get mildly healthier, while the South Aral continues shrinking and dirtifying.

I believe that is because they have installed new dikes to separate the two halves. The upstream side will improve, at the expense of the downstream side, at least in the short term"¦

There are real concerns that old Soviet Bioweapons sites on Vozrozhdeniye Island may become accessible to humans and animals. Heaven only knows what may still lurk there"¦"¦
