... no I am not talking about some isomniac’s diary. From NewRuleSets.com, a venture defined by Thomas Barnett we have the the free Premier Issue of the Rule-Set Reset, a 22 page document that kicks off a new journal for “thinking horizontally.” I repeat, this premier issue is free so download it now.Cover of Rule-Set Reset, Feb 2005

All comments about it’s design aside, it is definitely worth the read. Tom Barnett gives a rundown of Network Centric Operations and 4th Generation Warfare bumping heads in “The Pentagon’s Internal War Over What Iraq Means” and a number of bloggers such as Zenpundit are also featured. For those that don’t follow Barnett’s blog there is a round-up of important entries, and Bob Jacobson gives a short overview of Aceh which I found interesting as a close friend of mine will be there soon. All in all it is an interesting “experiment in communications” and I wish them well in their endeavour.

Check out their site, which I will be adding to our links: The New Rule Sets Project, LLC

It’s really friggin frustrating that they have right-click disabled in their java—every time I use my middle mouse button in firefox to open in a new tab I get this annoying popup that tells me “Right-Click Disabled!” (thanks—I’m using my middle mouse roller). I thought these people were supposed to be tech savvy!

Yeah… I think Critt Jarvis, the same guy that does Barnett’s site, is the one that did that site. A little amateurish in my opinion, but hey, who am I to judge?

I assume he is using the right-click blocker to protect the images from Getty, even though it doesn’t even work. You can get scripts out there that defeats this Java. There used to be one on the Firefox extensions page.

Yes, a disabled right-click is friggin frustrating. I had that corrected to be able to download the RSR pdf. Now that I know it’s happening in other places, I’ll have that corrected as well.

We are tech savvy. We’re also stretched pretty thin, attending to several projects concurrently, with few resources—in other words, money to pay for things such as the time to test.

Barnett’s site, yes. NRSP site, no.

All opinions welcome.

> I assume he is using the right-click blocker…

Incorrect assumption, Mr. Younghusband. And, more importantly,Why would you just assume when you could ask me via email? That’s what Curzon did.

Oh, if you’re still in a judging mood, may I recommend reading this?

Looking forward to the day when revenue justifies implementing NRSP’s design documents.

Critt,

Welcome to ComingAnarchy! I didn’t know that Curzon emailed you directly, but I am glad you read it so fast and came over for a chat since I know you guys get hundreds of emails a day.

With all your readers (which includes a number of bloggers like us at CA) I am sure if you put out the call there would be a number of people willing to get involved and help you flesh things out pro bono. Heck, I would do the New Rules Set site if I could get a free subscription!

PS. Is Polycot the company that did Rule-Set Reset?
PPS. By the way Critt, I like your website, very clean and simple. Are you ever planning on moving Tom over to WordPress?

Hello Gentlemen,

Critt has found his way here already I see ;o)

Thanks for the plug ! Critt can speak for himself and has but from my interaction with Tom and Bob I can attest they really are being pulled by many project requirements and too little time. Then again, when the iron is hot, you have to strike. RSR will evolve to some degree in year one and I know Bob takes reader feedback very seriously, so your remarks are welcome.

Coming Anarchy is a great site, very distinctive style. Keep up the good work !

Thanks for the kind words Mr. Safranski.

Dr. Barnett et al sure do seem extremely busy. RSR will definitely evolve over time, especially when you are putting out monthlies. I sure hope you have enough contributors. I was involved in a similar project a few years ago when some friends started up a quarterly magazine. Filling those pages 4 times a year with fresh material was a very difficult task… especially when it is a mostly volunteer project.

That mag has been going for almost 4 years now and the layouts have improved considerably, not to mention the website. I truly understand how difficult it can be, and over the years have seen too many of these projects fall by the wayside, so I wish you and your team the very best.
