That distinction goes to two world figures: Usama Bin Laden and President Putin.

Bin Laden’s latest is an audio tape calling on all Iraqis to boycott the election, saying that anyone who participated would be considered an “infidel.” Keep it up, asshole. Your days are numbered.

The other sore loser is Putin, or at least the Russian cronies backing the Ukrainian candidate who wasn’t poisoned. A Russian… sorry, “Commonwealth of Independent States” observer mission claimed “huge” electoral fraud favored Yushchenko. Violations included “election propaganda, which is prohibited during the voting day, in the form of numerous orange marks in the streets.” Nothing compared to the tactics that screwed Yushchenko back in November.

In other weird news: Powell got all pissy when a UN official apparently accused the US of being stingy. (I feel sorry for Jan Egeland, the well-meaning UN official who said that—it was taken out of context, and the actual statement was targeted at all rich nations for all aid in general.) Having said that, it worked—the US added US$20 million in aid to the tsunami-hit nations (a drop in the bucket, but it’s still something).

And finally, a South Korean who worked at a US army base defected to the worker’s paradise in the north. Read the always-hilarious KCNA report on the incident below, blockquoted for your personal amusement.

Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA)—A south Korean Kim Ki Ho, who was serving as head of the inspection section under the 6th ordnance battalion of the U.S. 8th Army Command in south Korea, defected to the northern half of Korea shortly ago when southerners’ yearning for the man-centered Korean-style socialism was growing more fervent.

Unable to put up any longer with the disgraceful south Korean society, disillusioned with it where nation’s dignity, sovereignty and human rights are violated at the hand of the U.S., and tolerate the U.S. war moves against the Koreans in the north and its obstruction to Korea’s reunification, he said, he made the bold decision to come over to the northern half of Korea, which is displaying its dignity with Songun politics, to contribute together with the fellow countrymen in the north to driving away the U.S. imperialist aggression troops from south Korea and accomplishing the nation’s cause of independent reunification.

Kim Ki Ho is now spending happy days amid the hospitality of people in the north.

Kim Ki Ho, you’re not one of my sore losers of the week, but consider yourself bestowed with an honorary mention.

Adding to Putin’s sore attitude, I thought you’d like to know that Mr. Putin was bestowed by his senior economic advisor, the high honor of having pulled of the “scam of the year” with the Yukos breakup and sale to the puppet-company of state-owned Rosnelft Oil.

Among other praisworth things the aforementioned advisor, Mr. Illarionov, had to say about Mr. Putin’s fine piloting of the ship of state:

The choice has been made. We live in a different country in economic, political, ideological and other terms. [Russia has undertaken an] interventionist model of economic development, with dramatic interference from the state.. [and from its] utterly incompetent officials some of whom have nothing to do with [the] economy…

Rather than being a potential ally of democratic countries, we have witnessed a cool-down in the relationship with many countries, if not the start of a cold war, which naturally leads to the country’s isolation in the world and the worsening of our foreign political position.

Ouch…
