Armed forces abroad are of little value unless there is prudent counsel at home.

– Cicero -

An excellent piece of advice from one of Rome’s finest politicians, if not the smartest strategic thinker when it came to the practical application of politics on a micro-scale.

Great quote. Just curious, but what (if any) are your criticism of our gov’t in light of this quote in the context of the war in Iraq?

There have been plenty of problems in Iraq—no doubts there. But I find myself defending the administration because so much of the criticism is so bogus. More on that at a later post!

I’m with you there. I see my error. “Counsel at home” made me think “domestic policy” when actually it means “people in charge of the armed forces that are abroad,” no?
