- Eminem Swing Voters?
I have read some rave reviews about Eminem’s new music video “Mosh” and the anti-Bush political theme behind it. Having not seen it I can’t comment on the content, but I have been amused by the (desperate?) anti-Bush commentators talking about how “important” it is. Blogger Juan Cole had this to say:
“Eminem cannily [...]
- Free Tibet! Free Tony Yeyo! Free Markets?
AAaaarrgghhh!! Damn you Lou Dobbs!! This man drives me nuts with his “Exporting America” stuff on CNN. What a load of populist bull. How can people fall for this? The reason why I bring up Mr. Moneyline is the following endorsement of Bush/Cheney by economic writer Steven Landsburg:

If George Bush had chosen [...]
- Deadline Passes for Japanese Hostage
The deadline has passed for the Japanese hostage in Iraq. How is this being seen in Japan?
According to the Mainichi, NGO workers and journalists familiar with the current situation in Iraq are floored that a Japanese man would go to the Iraq at a time when abductions are almost a daily event. In [...]
- Oh Powell…
Our good secretary of state has managed to piss off both Taiwan and China by what was probably just a slip. Visiting China, he had this to say about the so-called rogue island.
Taiwan is not independent. It does not enjoy sovereignty as a nation, and that remains [“¦] our firm policy.”Â?
Let sleeping dogs [...]
- EU continues to take on Iran
I’ve been scratching my head over this for some time. Why is the EU taking the lead in negotiating an end to Iranian nuclear research? It’s probably a positive thing even though the US has been being loud about saying that this is not enough and that Iran must comply with the IAEA, [...]
- Re: Missing explosives in Iraq
From Stratfor.com
...
Normally, this is the sort of thing that makes a Stratfor analyst’s hair stand on end. HMX? Tons of it? Missing? In Iraq? This is where we usually hit the panic button. That was until, after a little bit of poking around, we discovered that the explosives in question did not disappear just this week, [...]
- Japanese Hostage Taken
A Japanese citizen has apparently been abducted in Iraq and is threatened with beheading. CNN is saying the hostage is a soldier, but the fellow in the picture has shoulder-length hair and no one is reported missing from the SDP base. PM Koizumi has already said troops will not be withdrawn.
Reaction in Japan: [...]
- Sgt. Jenkins Reporting for Duty This is several weeks old, but check out these pictures and even a movie of Sgt. Charles Jenkins, alleged deserter to North Korea, reporting for duty at Camp Zama in Kanagawa, Japan. I think Mr. Jenkins saga is interesting and not necessarily easy to figure out. Check out this article in [...]
- Dear Francis
My beloved compatriot Mr. Younghusband, while I’m glad you felt that Mr. Moore’s film was garbage, what was wrong with the arguments for invading Iraq? Others have been far more articulate than me, so I’ll leave it to them.
First, a recent article from this charming site sums up the arguments. To get into [...]
- A welcome trend
From The Globe & Mail
The youth of Canada are less apathetic than their critics would suggest. A report on the June 28 federal election released this week by Chief Electoral Officer Jean-Pierre Kingsley shows the turnout among people in the 18-30 age group increased by a shade less than 55 per cent over the previous [...]
